1150-1200 word argumentative paper | English homework help
write a 1150-1200 word argumentative paper about One of two topics.
TOPICS:
1. In chapter 1 of his book The Professional Ethics Toolkit, Christopher Meyers defines a professional as “an expert who is skilled in the provision of vital services and who retains a normative commitment to his [or her] clients’ well-being” (p. 15). In the rest of the chapter, he goes on to make several points about the history of professions (section 1.1) and how they are structured (section 1.2). His main point is that the history and structure of professions contribute to make it the case that “trust is the default” for professionals (p. 15).
In the first part of your paper, explain a few (2-3) of Meyers’s most important reasons for claiming that trust can be the default for professionals. Then, provide your own argument for whether Meyers’s argument is a good one or not. Focus on one particular part of Meyers’s argument. In your own argument, you should mention how one of the other readings from class relates to Meyers’s argument. For instance, you could explain why one of the other authors would disagree with Meyers. (See the below instructions for the structure of your paper.)
2. In his article, “Professional Responsibility: Just Following the Rules?,” Michael Davis says that his “thesis is that following ‘the rules,’ while not all there is to professional ethics, is generally enough for responsible conduct” (p. 13). In the first part of the body of your paper, explain Davis’s main argument(s) for his thesis. Focus on just a few (2-3) points he makes. Don’t waste time explaining each of the types of obedience he describes.
Then, provide your own argument for whether Davis’s argument is a good one or not. Focus on one particular part of Davis’s argument. In your own argument, you should mention how one of the other readings from class relates to Davis’s argument. For instance, you could explain why one of the other authors would disagree with Davis.
